Robyn & Lewis | Leeds City Centre, England
The one that took a pause…..
Sometimes, you just get a good feeling and after meeting Robyn & Lewis in a Leeds Café Nero - I had that good feeling. The were lovely to speak too, super chilled out and had a very natural vibe about them. A little while later they confirmed they wanted to book me for their day and we did the usual of agreement signing and confirming details. Then opening my emails my heart sank (for me and them), their wedding venue was no longer doing weddings and wasn’t going to be open for their date. They paused their planning in search of a new venue and although it didn’t feel like it at the time, became a mini blessing in disguise.
A stop at City Hall:
Leeds City Hall is something for everyone: traditional day, filled with colour, 70’s diva’s and vintage galore - I’ve seen it all come down the steps and you see so much love pouring in and out before they go off and enjoy their days on their own unique ways. Robyn and Lewis practically ran up those steps, armed with a polka-dot dress and some retro shades - they were ready for a close up! Shortly after their family and friends started to arrive, welcoming each other and taking photo’s... the nerves suddenly hit. As a photographer you can always feel it in the air when it changes, but they kept smiling and laughing throughout.
The ceremony as short and sweet with a personalised reading that was loved by everyone before they very happily cheered down the aisle - one thing about these two is they don’t enjoy being photographed, so having a chilled and fun day was super important to them not feeling overwhelmed.
City walks and Spanish tapas for tea!
Walking through Leeds on your wedding day is an experience in itself, especially when you can’t remember how to get to the food, but is always filled with compliments from bystanders and makes for some really cute and fun images along the way as everyone is on the wedding buzz and high from the ceremony.
La Bodega by Iberica, Leeds is in the heart of the city with an entrance that if you blink you might just miss it, offering traditional tapas to contemporary Spanish dishes with Spanish wines, beers and a Sangria or 4. The inhouse team created a selection of tapas and deserts that kept flowing whilst the sun was shining.
An evening by the lake ♡
The Lakeside Café is nestled on the edge of Waterloo lake in Roundhay Park, Leeds. Complete with an outdoor terrace facing the lake, you get the most beautiful evening sunset in your own private space with the added bonus of being bale to slip out for golden hour portraits and create magic. I actually didn’t know you could host wedding receptions here, it’s got beautiful views. Now, given that Lewis is a massive Tenacious D fan and Robyn’s gang love a good 90’s tune, it wasn’t going to be a night of peace and serenity, but DJ Frankie San (radio presenter & producer) kept the dance floor packed…as I was leaving, Lewis had even acquired some bongos and was going wild!
Now, when it comes to deserts…if you live in Leeds, you’ll have heard of Doh’Hut but did you know they do donut towers?! And YES, that’s a bridal cow & goose!
Robyn’s beauty squad was the incredible Brittany Jae Make-Up Artist & Extension Specialist. Whether you want glam, natural or something in between - this woman always nails it and it looks so effortless.
