Top 5 tips for doing your own boudoir shoot hair

Doing your own hair for your boudoir session sounds a lot more intimidating that is, I swear! Here’s a couple of tips to help you along the way, with a little of inspiration too.

#1 Dry Shampoo

It’s literally your best friend! My favourite brand is Batiste over home brands as it’s available for multiple hair colours, fragrances and even in a volumising version. You should be able to pick this up online at places like Amazon or any supermarket like Tesco, Asda or Superdrug.

You can pop this in for any hairstyle, whilst your home and even bring it with you for an added boost. This is usually on hand in the studio too, it’s such a staple

#2 Test your style before your session

You have to make sure you not only like your hair but how long it takes or is there something you’d like to change? It might be that you’d like to change it half way through and therefore you need to know what way works best or which accessories go with your outfits. You’ll feel a bit more at ease on the day knowing that you know your timings and end result. Think about how your hair will be during the shoot, you’ll be stood, laid on the floor, playing with your hair and probably have your head upside down at some point.

#3 Just do YOU

I’m all for trying out new things but this is one that can cause you more stress than needed if there’s no professional around. If you don’t usually curl your hair, then you don’t have to do it for your photoshoot. The key is volume over flat hair, rather than any particular style. You want to look your best effortlessly and be comfortable playing with your hair.

#4 Wigs

This is a personal choice, obviously but this year has been a year of wigs with most of ladies bringing them from Shein. Now don’t get me wrong, they’re not the best quality but for a photoshoot they’re perfectly fine and a great fun way to change up your look or style. Definitely get these in advance if you’re going to try one out and practice putting it on to make sure you’re comfortable.

#5 Accessories

You don’t need any! If you want to include them then make sure you include them in your style test first :) These can include: pins, headbands, hair slides, hair pieces, bobbles, crowns and more!
